About us
It is well known that Curaçao had different plantations in the past. In those days Mr. Felipi Wawoe Ricardo, the grandfather of the owner of Rancho el Sobrino, Mr. Randolph Ricardo worked as a supervisor for one of the plantation owners in the area of Kenepa.
Mr Felipi Ricardo was a well respected and a loved man called „Tachi“. As gratitude of many years of loyal work, the plantation owner gave Mr. Felipi a piece of land where he could grow his own plants and have its own cattle. With time passing the piece of land was inherited from generation to generation.
On a sunny day in 1995 Randolph Ricardo felt as an inspiration of god to clean the piece of land and started to plant peanuts, beans, okra, pumpkin, cucumber and a lot more. He called the family together and cooked for all of them a nice meal under the tree. From that day on, the family reunited every weekend to cook the food they got from the land. This was an unforgettable time. In these days, the land belonged to Randolph Ricardos uncles. On February 26th, 1998, the day of the total solar eclipse on Curaçao, Randolph decided to start with Rancho El Sobrino (Rancho of the nephew).
Doing so, he honoured the spirit of faith, harmony and wisdom of the all people who lived and worked in this area. This spirit shall be preserved and live on forever at Rancho El Sobrino and the whole area of Banda Bou.
Rancho El Sobrino was officially opened in December 2006. It was built in a rustic, wooden style with a lot of love and dedication to details. The original „old house“ is still part of this small Resort.
This spirit of the past gives Rancho an unique feeling of peace, serenity and harmony the visitors feel the moment they enter. Its cosy atmosphere offers a re-creative holiday. Rancho El Sobrino is your tropical getaway, your home away from home.
